Maiden names often get lost forever, but Novaolo Wines celebrate the history of the women in the winery’s families. San Francisco agency Pavement developed a unique design the blurs lines and creates an intriguing air of mystery.

"Recently completed by Pavement, Novaolo is small-batch Pinot Noir produced from the finest fruit, nurtured by the cooling winds of the Petaluma Gap region of the Sonoma Coast AVA. Conceptually, Novaolo is a wine about obscured identities. The name 'Novaolo' pays homage to the two matriarchs of the winemaker's Polish and Sicilian families. Through marriage both matriarchs lost their maiden surnames, 'Novaolo' is quite literally a combination of these two names. Sophisticated calligraphy combined with a diecut label in the shape of a notebook page, visualizes this conceptual label through an unexpected execution. The end result is a wine that stands apart with originality and unrefined simplicity."
