The Dieline Awards is always a bit of a challenge for our judges. Every year we see amazing projects that impress, surprise, and delight us while challenging our thinking and the way we view the goods we consume. Choosing just three winners in every category is nearly impossible—so much so this year, that we had to give a few shoutouts to The Dieline Awards 2016 Merit Winners. We’ve compiled some honorable mentions so take a look at the projects that we simply can’t not share with you.

A new concept in Australia – Hunsa’s range of pre-cooked sausages (bangers) are packaged ready for consumers to simply heat & eat within just 5 minutes. As quality smallgoods producers, Hunsa has a reputation for using premium cuts of Australian meats with big flavours.

We were approached by Amy's to brand their new Drive Thru venture and create a packaging range that stood them apart in California's crowded fast food sector. They were setting out to provide the same freshly prepared vegetarian foods the company is known for, but fast.

Fereikos is a successful business of organic snail farming and snail food products based in Greece. It exports its delicacies around the world and has won a lot of excellency awards. They have a quite variety of snail products and are ready to launch much more so we created a flexible system of handmade spiral patterns in black and white, inspired by the snails, that can be easily expand to different products, giving them a strong unique identity that fits on a luxury gourmet product like escargots.

OLIVE OIL COOPERATIVE OF VIANNOS

The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) olive oil of Cretan village Viannos is acknowledged for its excellent quality and distinctive taste, due to the semi-mountainous terroir of the area. Sixty-five olive producers from Viannos decided to form their own cooperative and create an olive oil brand.

KARAT: NEW APPROACH TO RETRO

Moscow soft cheese factory ‘Karat’ held the first large-scale rebranding during its 81-year history and redesigned its products, which are familiar to every Russian. The new version of ‘Karat’ abandoned Soviet-style soft cheeses design including the image of the globe, sweeping letters ‘Friendship' ('Druzhba') and retained only the recognizable color codes of different cheese types. The overall design is minimal, giving it a breath of fresh air for today’s consumer.

The Librandi's farm is in an area called Vaccarizzo Albanese, that had always a vocation for the cultivation of olive groves and citrus groves. Once a Byzantine colony, today it's the home of a "Arbereshe" community, which has strongly characterized the territory.The history of this land has influenced the project, that has found his main source of inspiration in the Byzantine mosaics.

'LETTE MACARONS BOÎTE CARRÉE

The ‘lette boîte carrée, inspired by the classic bonbonnière, is three boxes in one. With its minimal aesthetic, the boîte carrée acts as a white canvas with infinite potential for customization. One can choose from three custom die cut trays, each designed to neatly present a selection of 'lette macarons in a different pattern: snow crystal, heart and field. Maximizing the potential of the 'lette macaron signature color palette, one can thus paint the gift with cookies.

A limited number of packages made in two sizes for the promotion of the product - Greek Baklava- at the global food exhibition, Sial Paris. As a request was to create an engaging experience with contemporary products that represent their Greek origin. Another challenge was to make clear the traditional handmade production process, as well the natural, Greek raw materials used.

Vancouver chocolatier XOXOLAT (sho-sho-la) retails Canada’s largest selection of single origin chocolate bars. Xoxolat’s own line of chocolate bars required a packaging redesign in order to compete with more established brands. It required a lower cost of packaging that could be produced in small quantities.

This is a label innovation which allows the consumer to peel away a section of the label, pull a tab and the label pulls together to form a festive Christmas bow/ribbon.The project was inspired by a hand made version of the label on glass bottles of Coca-Cola and has been engineered into a commercial, high speed applicable and cost efficient version.

A fictional cult icon is brought to life with Pepsi Perfect. First introduced in a hit movie from 1989, the space age-inspired soda appears as the drink of choice in the film’s vision of the future. Approaching October 21 2015, the date of the movie’s plot, we had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to treat our consumers to a product launch that merged science fiction with real life.

Inspired by the ever so nostalgic Chocolate Countdown Calendar, Taft's Ale House introduces "Liquid Advent". All beer lovers unite and celebrate the holiday season to the fullest! Designed by 1 Trick Pony, chocolate porter is packaged in beer cans illustrated with St. Nickolas himself. Each can is placed in a case of 24 with pocket inserts for the December countdown.

Wine collection: two red wines (young and barrel) and one white wine.For the label design we were inspired by the name of the product itself (Rojalet sounds similar to red in catalan). This refers to the characteristic red soil where the vines grow.

Casa Ramos Pinto, which has been combining innovation with tradition in the production of wine Ports since 1880, has just surprised the market by launching highly innovative and multi-functional packaging for its iconic RP 10 YO. This Port is produced at the emblematic Quinta da Ervamoira winery, located on the left bank of the Côa River. This estate has gone down in the region's history as the first to receive the title of world heritage site.

Sealed with old-school corks and topped with textured seals, the company’s initial offering is housed in opaque ceramic bottles aglow with the luster of screen-printed text and rich with historicity.

Patron Tequila wanted to expand it's holiday gifting product range with its first ever 1 liter bottle of Patron Silver. Rather than launch the bare bottle, there was a desire to adorn it with something special that would excite consumers, serve as a collectible item and ultimately drive sales.

A botanical London Dry Gin distilled in Warrington for Lidl and developed by Michelin Star Chef, Kevin Love, previously Head Chef at Heston Blumenthal’s 'The Hinds Head'. With an ingredients list including rosemary, juniper, lavender and lemon verbena this is one for the gin connoisseur.

Fictions is the newest addition to Anthropologie’s fragrance assortment. Combining the arts of perfumery, storytelling, and illustration, the exclusive fragrance collection debuted this year with three scents: PARIS: SHE MET HIM IN SECRET; LONDON. SHE KNEW HE WAS FOR-EVER, and L.A. SHE CALLED BUT HE WAS UNREACHABLE.

THE SIX MILE PENCIL

We wanted to get people re-engaged with the humble pencil and in turn creativity itself. After some (very scientific) testing, we worked out the average pencil can draw up to six miles. We gamified the pencil with mile markers down the body of the pencil. The more you sketch the more mileage you rack up, therefore encouraging creativity.
