Deanston Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Your nightcaps just got better. Good designed two products from Deanston Highland Single Malt Whisky, paving the way for the rest of their whiskies in the company’s redesign.
“The first two products to launch with the new design are Deanston 12 year old and Deanston Virgin Oak—and Good has also created a brand toolkit including print media artwork to support the relaunch. The whisky itself is housed in a newly created glass bottle with a shaped neck and body—with ‘Highland Single Malt’ embossed at the base.”
“The location, staff and distillery building itself have been given prominence at the centre of the redesign, reflecting the importance of the local area and community to the brand – which uses barley from local farmers, water from the river Teith and even produces all of the electricity used at the distillery using an on site hydro-energy facility—the only distillery in Scotland to do so.”
This is the ultimate Scotch whisky experience. It is refined and embraces not only the history of making spirits but the country it comes from. Images of the distillery location, the river, and the former mill instantly transport the consumer there and give them a better understanding of Deanston’s brand. It helps to create a bit of an emotional connection and helps consumers place themselves there, encouraging them to try the spirit. The label and packaging are given a slightly aged look to remind us of the brand’s history, and the gold foil adds in an element of sophistication.
“The label centres on this spirit of place and history, and features a redrawn icon of the brand—the former mill that houses the Deanston distillery itself. This image is surrounded by the words ‘Doune Scotland’—a reference to the location of the distillery and the community that is so important to Deanston—and sits above the Deanston name recreated using a new typeface.”
“Unusually, the labels also include signatures of the staff at the distillery itself—from the distillery manager to stillmen and warehousemen. Below this is the descriptor ‘Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky’ and the year 1966—a reference to the year the distillery was founded.”
“On top of the bottle sits a capsule closure which features an embossed replica coin—representing the currency used by employees of the cotton mill in the 18th century."
The outer packaging continues this attention to detail. The Deanston Virgin Oak is in a carton, while the Deanston 12 Year Old is in a tube—and both feature a newly commissioned woodcut of the distillery.”
Mike Hunter, Senior Designer, Good, stated, “We wanted to create a new look for Deanston which paid tribute to its history and legacy, and told its story through design. Deanston has genuine craft, community and heritage—things so many brands look for these days, but few can truly possess. Deanston is a brand with a great story and integrity—and of course, a great product at its heart.”
