Inspired by art and their cats, this dynamic couple, Jeff and Tara created a unique line of soaps that is eye-catching and whimsical and appropriately called “Meow Meow Tweet.”
“With a company name that’s as charming as it is impossible to forget, Meow Meow Tweet was founded in Brooklyn in 2009 by Tara Pelletier and Jeff Kurosaki.
The pair, who met in art school in Michigan, possess an innate openness and curiosity that led them to wonder why a gift of handmade goat’s milk soap left their skin feeling so much better than a commercial bar. Together, they set out to learn everything they could about making soap at home. The result was a creamy, skin-nourishing formula that received accolades from family & friends. Bolstered by the positive feedback, they went on to found their all natural vegan apothecary Meow Meow Tweet, named for their two beloved cats and Jeff’s bird.
From soap to nontoxic insect repellant and deodorant cream to a complete facial regime, Meow Meow Tweet is committed to creating pure, all natural, plant and mineral-based formulas. Drawing on Tara’s background as a chef, all goods are developed as if they were modern culinary dishes. Taking care to thoughtfully source all ingredients for the highest level of efficacy, Tara and Jeff infuse each product with beautiful scents that never overpower.
All products are made with organic, raw plant oils and butters, steam-distilled and cold-pressed
essential oils and organic or wild-crafted botanicals. Priding themselves on being a vegan brand, they use absolutely no animal-derived ingredients, so all formulas are free of carmine, beeswax, honey, palm oil, lanolin and tallow. Meow Meow Tweet is Leaping Bunny cruelty-free certified.
A firm belief in taking care of the planet—as well as our skin and ourselves—means that Meow Meow Tweet is committed to using the least amount of plastic packaging. All goods are either hand-wrapped in PCW paper, or housed in glass containers. Each of the colorful labels features whimsical illustrations by Jeff.
Along with Meow Meow Tweet, Tara and Jeff work together as a collaborative artist team, where they create sculpture, music and performances. The team relocated to the Hudson Valley in the beautiful Catskill Mountains during the winter of 2015. Surrounded by nature, they continue to find inspiration to infuse into their art, and their cherished brand.”
