Essence

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This design for Essence, a cosmetics and perfume company in the United Kingdom, recognizes the beauty in everyone’s differences. Its colorful branding and packaging seems inspired by tie dye but with a sophisticated and dreamy twist.
Because the coloring of Essence takes center stage, other elements are left to be a little more simple. Products are packaged in regular boxes and the typeface is a modern sans serif. Although it does not embody the crisp white and clean look we often associate with minimalism, The Bold Studio strives to keep the brand uncluttered to make a clear statement.
Essence’s packaging and marketing materials are treated like a canvas, and the array of colors reflect the different cosmetics Essence customers can apply to their skin. The design looks like a gorgeous watercolor painting or even the aurora borealis in the night sky — undeniably beautiful, but that beauty is slightly different to each person. This gives Essence the ability to appeal to a wider audience, allowing them to find what attracts them most and to discover their own beauty in the branding.
