The Next Big Thing: Cardboard Beer Bottles

Carlsberg is developing the world’s first fully biodegradable bottle for its beer. Similarly to Paperboy Wine, the packaging will be made with sustainable wood fiber. But unlike its predecessor, the form will be created in one-piece with an inner coating preventing the liquid from leaking out. This is a big step for a beverage company, especially one specializing in beer. Not only will the branding of Carlsberg change but the feel of their bottles will change to a non-transparent, non-breakable form that is soft to the touch.
"Carlsberg is also taking great pains to make sure that the taste will not be not affected. 'We never compromise on beer quality,' assures Langen. He also said the bottles are expected to stay colder for longer than aluminum cans."
