Shu Uemura Wooden Cosmetic Box

Designed by Project Packaging, Shu Uemura's compact box is fashionably simple and focuses on the products it holds. The clean-cut box is made of wood traditionally used in Japan giving the package its connection to Japanese culture.
"London based bespoke packaging specialist, Project Packaging, was tasked with producing a high end wooden box for Shu Uemura, a leading Japanese hair and cosmetics brand.
This compact box has been constructed using cedar wood from the cedar tree which is endemic to Japan and often used to build light-weight houses. During production, the box has been fully lacquered to achieve a high quality finish. The brand wanted to add a personal touch to the packaging, with wood proving to be the perfect surface to engrave a couple of words from the brand’s founder. The engraving reads:
The inside is just as luxurious as the outside, featuring a removable, divided wooden tray lined with plush black felt. And to top off the finish, the hinged lid of the box pulls down and is fastened to the base using a magnetic device and produces a satisfying noise when opened and shut."
