33 Books Co. Tasting Maps

Designed by Dave Selden, 33 Books Co. is a small business based in Portland, Oregon that creates unique tasting diaries designed for taking down notes about beer, wine, whisk(e)y, coffee and other fine consumables. A recent expansion into "tasting maps" (large format posters based on the popular books) posed some unique packaging challenges.
"Because the business is small (Dave is the designer, janitor, shipper, accountant ...), the packaging needed to be very easy to assemble. To reduce warehouse space, the boxes needed to store flat, and serve as both a sturdy self-mailer AND an attractive, retail-ready container. Due to the large size of the posters, examination by the customer isn't practical, so the print design needed to explain the posters and provide cues to their high production value (the posters are printed on heavy recycled paper with a variety of metallic and standard inks). The solution were a series of three unique boxes which share a single corrugated die (to save costs), and use a common visual language of metallic inks, bold type and maps to create an attractive container for some very attractive maps."
