Packaging sustainability is definitely going to be a big trend in 2015 and a remarkable in-house product and design development comes from Green Sheep Water, a bottled water company with a green conscience. It is a well known fact that plastic bottles are a threat to the environment, and Green Sheep Water has decided to partially tackle the problem by replacing plastic bottles with lightweight 100% recyclable aluminium ones.

“We know that no matter its packaging, bottled water will always have a higher impact on the environment than tap water, and we encourage people to drink from the tap whenever they have access to it. For the times when they don't, Green Sheep Water is the best way to make a difference."

“We looked at a lot of different materials before settling on aluminium. Plant-based plastics reduce production emissions but this doesn't change the fact that the end product is still plastic, and that means that they come with all of plastic’s end-of-life problems: most of the time they end up in landfills and oceans. Cartons are made of very thin layers of plastic, paper, and aluminium and separating these is a recycling nightmare. In fact, only half of American households have access to carton recycling."

"Glass is also infinitely recyclable (wootwoot!) but its recycling rate is about half that of aluminium. Glass is also the heaviest beverage container which translates to significant transportation emissions. And then we found aluminium... Lightweight, highest recycling rate, infinitely recyclable, high post-consumer content, different from anything else out there: it was perfect.”

In our opinion, it is not just the use of aluminium that make these bottles stand out from the crowd. It is also the clean design, the choice of an eye catching font and the zesty colour palette. The complementary environmentally friendly carton resembles a beer box and features interesting features, such as a window and some refreshing fun facts.
