LYON & LYON is a twin design duo with a new Kickstarter project hoping to revive an important tool to all designers: the humble pencil. The Six Mile Pencil, produced by the international design agency, illustrates how far you’ve drawn by using a mile ruler printed on it’s body. The pencil contains enough graphite to draw for six miles.
“We went through multiple designs, testing some of the better ones along the way by getting our friends to critique them. The tricky part was being able to print so far along the pencil barrel, which we solved with a digi print. Then was the issue of getting the color right, which took some time. We really wanted it to pop. The final thing was tweaking the pack, making it lightweight, sturdy and yet have a very high quality print value.” – Lyon & Lyon
The pencil will be produced in Chambers Pencils, a 90-year-old family run business and one of the last remaining pencil manufacturers in England. They are available in both mile and 10 kilometer variations. For more information and to order The Six Mile Pencil visit the agency’s Kickstarter page.
