Absolut vodka recently launched Absolut Moscow, a limited edition in the tradition of their other "city" bottles, designed to showcase the cutting edge personality of the Absolut brand against the backdrop of the world's great cities. To aid in this, leading fashion designer Alena Akhmadullina was enlisted to help design a bottle that would capture the beauty of traditional Moscow architecture with a taste of the city's future in the form of glittering skyscrapers and ultra-modern design.

Collaborating with Ms. Akhmadullina and Pernod Ricard in this project was Cocoon Group, who took a very active role in bringing the Absolut vision to life by helping in the artist selection, working with her on the subject matter, and finally helping to bring the design to life on the bottle. Below, Zuzana Behova, managing director of CG in Moscow shares some of the more interesting aspects of the design and collaboration.

Contrasts "Moscow is a city of contrasts. Old and new, traditional and modern, affluence and poverty, churches and nightclubs. Yet somehow it all exists together and 'works'. This is something I've never experienced like I do in Moscow and is difficult for people outside the city to understand. The architecture is, of course, one of the first and most visible indications of the contrasts that make up Moscow. That is why it makes such a great subject for characterizing the city."

See through design We'd chosen 'Old & New' and were really stuck trying to come up with a way to connect these ideas in a way that worked for the bottle. The idea of using the front and the back together, seeing through the traditional buildings to the gleaming skyscrapers, was a great symbiosis and one of those 'aha' moments that you relish so much in this industry.

Colors and Patterns This is where Alena's work really paid dividends. Her signature style defined the composition as well a look and a feel that was particularly hers rather than obvious cliches or 'postcard' imagery. The fact that she's from the fashion world meant we had a completely new perspective from which to tackle the project and you can see in the stunning beauty of the final result why Absolut picked her.

Collaboration A collaborative project like this is always a refreshing change and a chance for us to see the world through the eyes of our collaborative partners. This is not CG's first experience with outside artists, however you always learn something new and this was no exception.
