"Chad Roberts Design was established in 2009 by Chad Roberts upon returning to Canada after a decade working in New York City at several prominent boutique design studios. We are a young 3 person studio based in Toronto, specializing in the creation and management of visual identities for creative people and the products they produce. We create specialty packaging, engaging websites, custom hand lettering and brand identities. Our clients include chefs, architects, photographers, coffee roasters, confituriers, bakers, fishmongers, and more. Our multi-faceted approach to building brand identities allows for a wide variety of unique visual applications. Re-enforced by a defining point of view, each brand builds a profound and lasting visual story. Each project is very collaborative and individually tailored. We strive to become a trusted creative partner with many of our relationships consisting of numerous projects over multiple years."

Sloane Fine Tea Merchants - To better define the brand, this project required a thorough investigation into the roots of the Sloane Tea Company – in particular the British heritage of the brand’s namesake: Sloane Square in London. The result is a complete reassessment of what the brand is and what their values are. Building upon the notion that Sloane is a ‘gentlemen’s tea’, the result is a versatile design in tune with the aspects of their products that their consumers identify most with. The identity system includes a variety of art, filagree, and patterns. Utilizing the established brand language, we designed a set of over-sized bar tins made available to restaurants who serve Sloane tea. The natural sheen and texture of the gold-tinted metal tins shows through in the pattern and artwork adding a luxurious depth of layers.

Kitten & the Bear - After deciding they were ready to jump in with both feet, our redesign of this lovely packaging allowed this pair of limited batch confituriers to expand their business from their humble beginnings at the farmers’ market to selling their product on the retail market. The design respects the defining qualities of the original packaging while introducing illustrated elements and classic typography. The labels accommodate their 200+ batches of unique flavours that they produce each year and meet the legal requirements for packaging in Canada, with another variation specific to the United States.

"Balzac’s Coffee Roasters - The challenge was to take an established and well designed company and to modernize it while maintaining 20 years of brand equity. It was of utmost importance to refocus the brand to reflect the defining aspects of their superior coffee: artisanal, sustainable, local and natural. The result is welcoming to new customers, yet sensitive to the existing customer base. Balzac’s Blend This design brings the focus of the Balzac’s Blend packaging back to their superior product: hand-crafted artisanal coffee. Atwood Blend The result of a collaboration between Balzac’s Coffee Roasters and award-winning Canadian author Margaret Atwood, this design highlights their commitment to the environment and concern for avian ecosystems. By combining the stunning illustration with strong type and brand seal, the design has significant shelf presence that emotionally engages consumers."

"Bobbette & Belle Artisanal Pastries - This identity for an artisanal pastry shop combines French influences with modern aesthetics while calling attention to the new hand-drawn monogram. The extensive set of supporting artwork consists of intricate patterns, icons, and a variety of filagree. The flexible brand identity allows for application across many product forms. The resulting packaging design is a pleasing and efficient system that complements the variety of products the client produces for retail sale.
