Designer Josh Carnley was commissioned to brand and package the Great Bear Wax Co. in a way that embodied the rugged adventurer and masculinity of a man. Each candle is made from harvested Alabama beeswax or American grown Soy wax – a departure from paraffin wax – which is lightly scented so as to not “demand attention.”
“I knew I wanted an artisan feel to the packaging without pursuing the “trends” of artisan design. I didn’t want to do anything hand drawn or use earthy colors. I chose a simple grid that highlighted the important elements of each candle: scent, burn time, size, and a batch number where Great Bear Wax Co could hand write each number. Paper choice was also a way to make the packaging feel very natural and artisan. I chose a “Cottonwood” Vellum from Neenah.” – Designer, Josh Carnley.
The glass candles were given a different aesthetic. I added a description of the company and the individual candle to each system. This decision was made to inform consumers and create a more personal experience with the buyer since they were wanting to purchase a more expensive candle that would last longer.”
